“Blind Side” 85 C/10 Pickup
Jason Hill was called “the King of Squarebodies” by Truckin’ Magazine over 8 years ago. His love for the 1981-87 square body Chevy pickups comes from getting one to drive while he was in high school. Over the years he has built more of this body style than we can count. He has collected one of all the body styles available from the 80’s truck era – an award winning super custom blazer that was won Best of Show awards across the country and was a Street Trucks cover vehicle, a dually that he loves to drive and still with the original paint, a custom four door shortbed, numerous single cabs both custom and retro, and this amazing find – a rare extended cab.
Blind Side – named after Jason’s loss of sight in one eye and a play on words for his competition – sits on a custom built frame done in the Hill’s shop, painted in the same lime green as the outside. The dash is from a 64 Chevelle (another of his favorite cars- and that he’s built several of) with 1969 Camaro gauges. The truck has flaming PPG paint and a custom Lipstick Red interior. The front wheel wells have been section to help with the stance – and the truck definitely lays the frame on the ground.
Jason started building trucks in high school, but started his business several years later in 1995 in a 1,500 sq.ft. shop. After building a 6,000 sq.ft shop and realizing it to was still too small – he now occupies a 24,000 square foot state of the art shop with 8 employees , which also houses his friend and custom interior builder Jimmy Davis of JD Glassworks.
Hill’s Hot Rods built trucks and cars have been on the cover of or featured in over 80 magazine articles. He built trucks that have placed 2nd at the F100 Nationals 2 times, many many Best of Show awards, SEMA feature vehicles for the past 10 years, and most recently built Fast Lane – the truck that was awarded Good Guys 2011 Truck of the Year.
