Radical Flyer MONSTER Wagon
The Radical flyer Wagon is not a trailered show queen. It was designed imagination, his ability to stare at bare metal and see what he can turn it into. In his own right, he is a true artist and master builder.
The Radical Flyer has been on TV. Wes entered it on Pinks and Pinks All Out Takes filmed at Bandimere Speedway in Denver, Colorado in 2008. The Radical Flyer was shown on Powerblock on Spike TV and the TV show, Car Crazy. Last year Wes took it to the Bonneville Salt Flats where it was a big hit with the and built for the enjoyment of family and friends.

The Radical Flyer was first drafted on a piece of paper in 2003 by Wes Messick while seeing “little” but thinking “big”. . . REALLY BIG. It took 3 years to accumulate the parts he needed. He began building, designing, welding, and fabricating in 2006 and finished in 2007. The Radical Flyer was built as a family project with wife, kids and grandkids all chipping in. The Radical Flyer is 14 feet long, 10 feet tall and 6 feet wide. Wes hand-crafted the entire chassis and used Chevy running gear. It is powered by a Chevy 350 small block with a Turbo 400 transmission. Wes constructed the body of the wagon using tubing and sheet metal, hand-formed to replicate the little Radio Flyer wagon from his childhood. This wagon has six racing seats and a sofa style seat in the rear. His idea was to give his kids the ride of their lives!! He built the wagon like he builds everything else, for speed! The wagon has been in many parades but looks its best racing down the road well over 70 mph, spinning “donuts” in the front of his house or climbing the hills in the back. The Radical Flyer Wagon is not a trailered show queen. It was designed and built for the enjoyment of family and friends. The end result of the Radical Flyer is the outcome of Wes’s creativeracers and fans. Next year he plans on setting a world record at the Salt Flats for the “fastest wagon”!
Wes Messick is a native Californian, now living in beautiful Fort Collins, Colorado. He comes from a family who loves to build and race anything they can put a motor in . . . and do! His first race car was a 1969 Roadrunner, then he went on to build a 1969 Plymouth Valiant with 426 Hemi. Still wanting to go faster, he built a 1982 Suzuki GS 1100 motorcycle into a Super Gas Drag Bike. He competed in the National Motorcycle Racing Association of Southern California, winning back-to-back Championships in 1996 and 1997. He was presented the coveted OSCAR award in 1995 by NMRA. Between working and racing Wes has built a 4 wheel drive version of the Munster Coach and the Coffin Dragster, based off the Munster’s TV show. After moving to Colorado he shifted from drag racing to building and fabricating for his hobby. He opened his own business, Messick Motorsports, for a number of years. However, family came first and he decided to take a job at United Parcel Service as a diesel mechanic. His next project is currently in the “accumulation” stage.
